Research interests
I work with the problem of the interaction of body and space in the modern media environment. One of the greatest interests of my artistic research is epistemological issues related to the human and the non-human. Our contemporary culture provides us with models of the society through images. In my artistic studies, the human body always becomes more than a rhetorical figure. It concentrates on accents that go beyond the fictitious representation of reality and the widespread body image as the carrier of basic characteristics of perception (gender, sexual orientation, nationality).
The biological body becomes dependent on the images of bodies produced by technical devices, and the bodily practices carried out by a person in his daily life are actualized as instrumental and communication skills only to the extent that the media broadcast and accentuate their use. In this sense, the human body is a paradoxical object, which, despite belonging to nature, acquires its completed image in the symbolization models provided by the media.
I am interested in the corporeality of consciousness, the fundamental dependence of the structures of subjectivity on the bodily constitution,
understanding the diverse forms of a person’s relationship to themselves, to another, to the world.
The total impact of information and communication technologies on the daily life of a person leads to a change in the understanding and experience of a person with their own body. And all this is due to the fact that “all this belonged to us.” In this contexts, I’m mixing archaic and contemporary.
Involvement in the feminist discourse is important for me.
On practice
I’m mixing high art and low art in my works. For me it is important to change the accents, shifting emphasis, overall values. I’m building a context based on a cross-disciplinary approach to reflect the modern world. I work in different media from video art to installations, sculptures, painting. An important part of my artistic practice is direct and literal quoting of the urban environment surrounding me. I work a lot with the archetypes of modernist visuality, interpreting them through the aesthetics of minimalism. I use “pieces of streets” in my works: marble, granite, asphalt, natural pigments, glass, gypsum, concrete, clay.
